Love 4 Longarmers

Jo's top quilted by Kay and Denise

Happy Friday quilters! I finally woke up at sunrise on one of my days off to take quilt pictures before the sun got blindingly bright and hot.  It's full summer already and it's only June! This post is full of quilt tops that were donated and sent to longarmers to be quilted, so they are mostly very large.

In this heat it's hard to imagine snuggling under a quilt, but I just delivered another 20 the one of the hospitals. The chaplains all said thank you and how much the quilts are appreciated by families.

I'm taking my latest batch of nursing students to the hospital tomorrow for the first time, so they are all anxious! I was excited recently to hear from a former student who had a very rough semester during her first level.

One thing we see fairly often is students who don't want to be/aren't meant to be nurses but are pursuing it for various reasons (family pressure, they never imagined doing anything else, etc.)  By the time they get into nursing school they're invested so much toward that goal that it's very very difficult for them let go and change majors even if it's obvious that would be the better choice.

We try to support them through that realization and encourage them to make a positive change.  Nursing isn't the end-all-be-all of careers! But I remember how hard it felt to make big decisions as a 20-year-old.

Anyway, this student of mine had been pressured into nursing by her family and was suffering from incredibly difficult coursework in a field she didn't love.  She was one of the sweetest students I've had in a long time and had such a tender, kind heart.

She contacted me for a reference and a year later she's changed majors and is doing much better! It's always a joy to see my former students succeeding, but especially so when they struggled.

Hope your 4th of July is great! The next block drive will be coming up ASAP.

Kathy Kathy

Happy Friday quilters! I got a few quilts arriving recently gifted to CiL through this year's H2H drive from some lovely quilters.  Kathy W. sent in these first two very bright and colorful quilts.

I always have a soft spot for "home" themed quilts, and I love these scrappy houses.

The next 3 quilts came from Kathy B.  She made one from the Jan/Feb string block drive blocks and two awesome patriotic quilts.

All of the tiny, pieced blocks in this flag quilt are too cool. I love the overall effect.

It's still incredibly hot here, I have to sneak out during a 30 minute window at sunset to take pictures without melting.

I've been brushing the cats to help with alllll the shedding.  So far they seem to have an endless supply of hair!

The cuteness just makes up for all the fluff in the air.

Quilt Top Round Up

Little bit of business up top:

I have had 2 mystery Give Back Box deliveries, please email at CoveredinLoveTx@gmail.com to claim them. One was a large Swoon block completed quilt, the other (has been claimed).

Secondly:  Quilts for Uvalde info

Now on to Friday Finishes!

It's a quilt top round up! These are some of the last quilts from the batch of UFO tops I finished back in the Spring. This colorful 9-patch top came from Amy A.

Cyndy sent in this scrappy plus top. I really like the assortment if neutral fabrics she used.

This stunning batik top came from Frances. I suspect it was paper pieced.

Gorgeous!

These next two tops came from Irene.

The colors remind me of 1980s workout gear, what do you think?

It's remarkable how the same colors in a softer palette look so much more mellow.

Lastly, two quilt tops from Priscilla. The first quilt is particularly cool because it features millennium fabric.  I wasn't quilting at the turn of the millennium, but I understand these fabrics were a big thing at the time.  Bonnie Coleman loves them!

And lastly some soft, pretty stars in the sunset!

Thank you for coming along for this tour of quilted tops! The CiL stash of UFO tops is quickly building back up, just the other day I went through and made a bunch of backings so they'll be ready when I get the quilting bug again.

Applique, Oh My!

Can I just say, I am not an applique-er. It's time consuming and tedious and it's just not my thing. Which is why I am so impressed with these quilts from Patricia B!

First up is this homey and cozy applique sampler quilt with HST sashing.

I'm sorry I wan MIA for two weeks of Friday posts.  I was working and I had run out of pre-scheduled posts.

I need to take some pictures of quilts during this break and I'll get some more posts ready.

I love this combination of applique and piecing the Patricia does in her quilts.  I think it makes them look very traditional and cozy.

Last up, this sweet little 25 patch quilt. I'll be making another delivery to the hospital soon and I'm sure these quilts will find the perfect homes.

The cats are just as adorable and hilarious as ever, but I'm afraid I've been rather falling down on taking photos of them. I need to make more of an effort so that I can share them with their adoring fans!
