38 Quilters > 226 Blocks > 7 Quilts

Happy Friday! This is an especially good one for me since I have another block drive wrap up to show!  The Nov/Dec patchwork quilts are all done.  7 Quilts in the "Ready to Go" stack for Covered in Love.

These last 3 quilts measure a generous 72" square. Kathy assembled and quilted them for me (thank you!!)

It's funny that in the last year or so the block drives have expanded to the point that I consider a drive that produces "only" 7 quilts small.

Several of you have mentioned that you weren't too sure about how these blocks were going to come together before you saw the finished quilts.

I hope you're all sold now, I know I am!  Actually, I knew this would be a less popular block so I placed it at the holidays, when many people are too busy to participate anyway.

I enjoy drives like this one where the blocks blend together and you can't tell what the original block was.

I used some more of Sandra's great manly-novelty yardages on these.

Many thanks to Sanrda, Kathy, and all the quilters who participated to make blocks!

Don't forget about the block drive going on now! If you'd like to join in with Covered in Love's mission you can learn more on the main page or check out the block drive.  The current Covered in Love block drive is an easy Hunter's Star block.

It Takes a Village

Another week, some more finishes for Covered in Love! Mina sent in this lovely, happy village top and I quilted it.

I love all the different scrappy houses sitting next to one another.  I found a great backing fabric for it in the ones Sandra has sent.  Seattle! I thought it fit with the place/village/city theme.  Hopefully it winds up with a person who has a connection to the Pacific Northwest.

Next up is another beautiful cat quilt from Louise. You can see her blog post and more pictures here. This was made with more of the Henry Glass "Cool Cats" fabrics that were donated to Covered in Love.

Too cute! Someone is really going to love this one.  Thank you to Covered in Love's "village"!

Cuddly Cozy Patchwork Quilts

Happy weekend! For most people around here Spring Break is ending and it's back to the grind stone.  I have the first 4 of the Nov/Dec block drive quilts for Covered in Love to share with you.

I thought I'd waited late enough to take these pictures, but the sun foiled me.

You'll have to go a little bit on faith when I tell you that these quilts are beautiful and soooo cozy. The color scheme came together better than I hoped and it definitely gives off that comfy, tucked-in-with-a-book, cabin-by-the-lake feel I wanted.

There were some beautiful pieced blocks sent in.  Thank you to everyone who participated, all 38 of you!

These 4 quilts all measure 60x72. I bound several of them with a roll of navy blue and gold binding that Christy M. sent in. Thanks!

Beautiful quilts that will bless grieving families.

I took lots of close-ups to make up for the over-exposed big pictures.

Sandra S. is a generous quilter who keeps me in good backings.  She had sent me some really pretty, manly novelty fabrics with western motifs perfect for these quilts.

Horses and cowboys with cactus and buffalo.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this drive to provide CiL with beautiful quilts!

International Cooperation + Giveaway Winners

Jelly Roll Giveaway drawing at the end of this post, don't miss it!

Politicians may not be able to get it together, but at least Covered in Love is a shining example of international cooperation! These two quilts are part of a set of tops that came all the way from Jannette in Canada.

The first on is a pretty scrap quilt. Even the white backgrounds are scrappy too, my favorite kind of quilt!  I did a quick stipple, backed if with fabric from Judy and bound it with pre-folded binding from Nicki!

This quilt I'm guessing all the fabrics came from the same line, but I don't recognize which one.  It's pretty and Spring-y, perfect for this time of year when the flowers are starting to bloom.

This one was back with fabric donated by Sandra and bound with scraps from my string bin.  Thank you Jannette, Sandra, Nicki, and Judy!

Now on to the moment you've all been waiting for! I offered two jelly rolls as part of CiL's Jan/Feb block drive to celebrate (almost) 3 years/300 quilts for Covered in Love!  Every block sent in counted as one entry (for those of you who sent finished tops I counted up how many blocks were in them). You guys rocked this block drive! 1272 blocks sent in!!! I'm going to be sewing up string quilts through the summer, and I'm thrilled about that!

less than half of the blocks sent in

Drum roll please, the random number generator has chosen #303, Kathy B. from Indiana, and #1196, Pam C. from California!

Kathy B. is a long time contributor and Pam is brand new, somehow that seems perfect.  Thank you, all of you, who contribute to Covered in Love. Some of you have been sending in blocks since the first or second drive and more new people join every month. I am proud of what we made and I couldn't have done it without you!

Happy Sewing

Today was a day for some fun sewing projects.  First up I made a batch of fabric bowl-cozies.  Have you seen these? It's to keep your hot bowl from burning your hands if you microwave soup or something. I used this tutorial.

Several of my friends and family have expressed an interest in these so I figured I better get busy :) A good excuse to use some stash and some leftover batting scraps.

I didn't really count as I was cutting fabrics and batting, just used up what I had. I ended up making 10 bowl-cozies.  I found some really fun kitchen-themed fabrics in my stash.

These are reversible and washable and make a great quick gift. I would definitely recommend it if you haven't ever tried to make them before!

Next up I cut into my green scraps for this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge

I'm almost done with my purples and blues from earlier in the year. I'm thinking that with the greens I may have enough to finish my first RSC quilt of the year!
