Late Blooming Flowers

Spring flowers are blooming in August! The Covered in Love quilts made from the Spring Flower block drive in March/April are done.

Local quilter and part-time saint Kathy took all these blocks and finished them into quilts.

I had a great stash of flower-themed and spring-colored fabrics to make backings for these quilts thanks to the many of you have sent in yardage.

Kathy grouped the flowers by color group and stippled the quilts.

There were six quilts in the initial batch. Eventually there will be one more with the leftover blocks, so 7 total!

It's broiling hot here in Texas right now, as it usually is this time of year.

As much as I was fed up with the rain last spring it's hard to remember why now. All the plants are dried out and the grass is dead and crunchy.

The rain did give us a spectacular spring bloom.  The Texas wildflowers were exceptional and I think my mom's flower garden was the best it's ever been.

Hopefully these Spring flower quilts will remind some grieving families of better times.

Thanks to everyone who contributed! I literally couldn't do it without you.

Interestingly, this time we had loads of contributors from just a few states, especially NY and TX, and less variety of states sending in blocks.

Pillow hog.

Nettie's Sweet Quilts

I've got three sweet quilts finished this week. Nettie sent in several tops and these three are the first ones I've gotten done.

This plus quilt is packed full of adorable Heather Ross scraps.  Octopuses and matrioshka dolls and bicycles and fish!

I took lots of close up pictures of the cute fabrics.

Next up, another sweet scrappy quilt with strings.

I made up backings from donated fabrics and stippled these quilts. I'm able to do one each night after work.

Lastly, a really awesome non-scrappy quilt.

Really rich colors in this lattice weave sort of pattern. Love it!

Thanks to Nettie and those of your who have donated fabrics for backings and bindings to Covered in Love!

...and instead of a cat picture, you finally get a work in progress picture from the little house! First big project was taking out he ceiling over the kitchen and lofting it to make it taller.

Louise to the Rescue!

String blocks by Melinda
Louise is one of Covered in Love's behind the scenes heroes. Not only is she the secretary on the board of directors (she keeps me organized) but she's always willing to take a box of blocks or UFOs to finish.  I recently sent her a big box of donated UFOs, blocks, and fabric and she's been steadily sending back quilts.

Assorted patriotic blocks, about half from Debbie H.

You can see her post where she blogged about these two quilts here along with lots more pictures.  The string blocks by Melinda were a complete set, but for the patriotic quilt above Louise combined lots of assorted blocks of different sizes with sashing and borders to make a cohesive quilt.

"T" Blocks by Priscilla
After draining the first box and turning it into four quilts Louise asked for more, so I was quick to send her another 10+lbs of orphan blocks and assorted donations!  (Be careful what you ask for!) Her blog post with more pictures of the "T" quilt is here.

Blocks mostly from Priscilla and Teresa

This pretty sampler sampler is another blended quilt, mostly made from 2 sets of blocks using sashing as needed to size them up.  (Full disclosure, I think this one is my favorite!) You can see loads more pictures on her post here.

Thank you so much to Louise for being such a big help, and to all of you who have sent in your blocks and UFOs! I've been basting and quilting some in the afternoons this week but I didn't get any thing finished so I'm glad to have her finishes to share. Hopefully more from me next week.

String Drive 2019: Round 3

String Quilts: batch number 3! This makes 13 so far finished from the January Covered in Drive block drive.

These 4 string quilts were pieced and quilted by me. They finish at 60"x72", perfect for cuddling with.

Thanks to generous supporters I had these cool musical fabrics to back them with.

Bound with scrappy fabrics, I like how that red binding on this one brings out the red corner stones.

There are going to be, I think, 25 or so quilts from the string drive this year and they're nearly all assembled into tops. That's record time! Thank you, everybody!

...of course I can't leave you without a cat photo.

The height of feline dignity
