Not Dead, Just Lazy

I've been enjoying my lazy summer - maybe a little too much! It turns out that I mostly quilt for stress relief, and when I'm not stressed I lose all motivation to quilt.

I recently made a couple of little purses based on this tutorial with the fabrics I won this spring.

I also finished the sampler quilt last night and today. I leave for camp tomorrow, so it had to be done.

I quilted large, random, overlapping squares in the red areas and outlined the designs in the samplers. At first I wasn't sure about the fish fabric for the back, but now that it's together I really like it.

Realistically, this will probably be the last post for another long while. I am leaving tomorrow for a week of camp and immediately after that we leave for two weeks of roadtrip vacation visiting family. I just wanted to check in and let you know I wasn't gone for good. I'm enjoying my last week with this little guy. This was last summer at camp, trying out cotton candy (he liked it. Alot!) I've been taking care of him for a year; it'll be hard to say good bye.

The sampler quilt is going to be for him. The Odyssea fabrics are suitably boyish without being too childish. My last day of work is next Wednesday, but I'll be going to camp again with him in July, so I have until then to finish it. I'm thinking 8 or 10 12" blocks set on point with some blue or green sashing.

Trying new things...

I found this great sampler that focuses on 12 different patchwork techniques and has a fun modern feel. I honestly though I'd never have the patience or precision to do any of these blocks. To my surprise they're actually not that hard to do, and they came out nice! The cathedral windows one was really fun to do. That's all I have to show to for now; just a little brag. :-)
