Scrappy Mountain Majesties Block Drive Wrap Up

Happy Friday, quilters! Today I have the wrap up post for our Scrappy Mountains block drive. These first two quilts were assembled by Becky and quilted by Doris on her long arm. 

I loved this block drive, the design and the color scheme and all the quilts that were made! We ended up with a total of 9 quilts.

Quite a few of them got backings from this fabric line with the really deep blue and teal that coordinated perfectly with the blocks. This yardage was donated by my local quilt shop friend.

Speaking of block drives, I finally got our next one posted, check out the link at the bottom of this post. I think this one is going to be a favorite of mine, too.

These last two tops were assembled by me and quilted by Linda on her long arm.

When I was putting together this arrangement I though I was arranging them with the darker bits together, but not it's obvious that I was arranging the busy/patterned fabrics together, except for the one that's the wrong way around.

These were the leftover blocks that didn't play well with others and the came together into a nice little top. Nice and bright!

More Scrappy Mountains Quilts

Happy Friday, quilters! I have a couple more of the Scrappy Mountain quilts from our block drive to show this week. Both of these were assembled by Becky and quilted by Linda.

The multicolor thread Linda chose coordinates great with the colors in the top.

For the backings I used some donated fabric in navy and teal with metallic copper highlights.

I think Becky did a really good job choosing which blocks together and laying out the tops.

Thank you ladies! Everything is good here at the cat house. Stuart is getting to spend more time out in gen-pop. He slept on the bed last night and everyone behaved themselves.

First of the Scrappy Mountains

Happy Friday, quilters! I know many of you, like me, are looking at a cooold weekend ahead, so let's have some warm quilts.

The first few quilts from the Scrappy Mountains Block Drive are done and ready to show. These first couple were quilted by Kathy on her long arm.

Becky in South Texas has been a godsend to help with assembling block drive blocks into tops. She made all the tops in this post and chose the layouts. I think she did an awesome job!

I'm in love with these quilts! Both the color scheme and the design are right up my alley.

This last one was quilted by Linda with one of my favorite pantos.

These ladies did such a great job with the blocks that were sent in and produced some stellar quilts.

Jan-Mar 2025 CiL Block Drive

Happy New Year, Quilters! And welcome to the Jan-March 2025 Covered in Love block drive. To start off the year I thought we'd make a version of Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Mountain Majesty block.  I made a scrappy version years ago (above) and it is a fun block to make.  More details on the block drive "rules" at the bottom of the post.

I picked this color scheme: seafoam, grey-blue, brown, rust orange, goldenrod and butter yellow. Each block will need two fabrics that read as solid, textured solids and small prints are good. Make sure your two fabrics contrast with each other. The instructions make two mirror-image blocks at a time.

Start with two fabrics cut to 13.5" square.

Mark a diagonal line on the back of one of them from corner to corner. Place the squares right sides together and sew 1/4" on either side of the marked line. 

Cut on the line and press to make two half square triangles. Trim your HSTs to 12.5".

Stack the HSTs right sided up with the diagonals oriented opposite to each other. 

Cut vertical slices 2.5" wide through both blocks.

Separate the top layer from the bottom layer and reverse the order of the strips as shown above. Sew the strips together and you should get two mirror-image blocks measuring 10.5" x 12.5".

This drive will run from January - March (3 months). 

In case you haven't ever participated before, the idea in a nutshell is that you can make as many or as few blocks as you like. Contact coveredinlovetx@gmail.com for the mailing address and try to have them in the mail by the end of March. All the blocks received will be combined into quilts for families who lose loved ones in east Texas hospitals. 

Bonnie's Scrappy Mountain Majesties

Hello all, happy Friday! This week I have a slightly more traditional quilt to show you. This is my version of Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Mountain Majesties pattern.  The main change I made from hers was to increase the size of the blocks.

The fabrics for this quilt came completely out of my stash; always good to do a little stash busting.  This became another quilt for Covered in Love.

The quilt finished at 56"x70" and got an all over stipple for quilting. Binding is a pretty yellow solid.  I didn't get a picture of the back but it was pieced from more stash.
