Happy Friday! I have one of my pet scrappy projects to show today. You know I love a good scrap quilt.
I made this quilt from string scraps using a quilt as you go method, piecing the strings onto strips of batting. When I do QAYG I press the seams flat and top stitch them down to keep the bulk down (pictures of that here.)
Finished size was about 55" x 72". I found a cute backing with the right colors on sale at the LQS and bound it with a scrappy binding. With the strings QAYG to the batting the backing just needed a couple of horizontal lines to hold it in place.
This quilt is being donated to the hospital for Covered in Love. If you want to help out with Covered in Love it's not too late to contribute to this month's block drive, which incidentally also involves strings!

Finishing my Quilt as You Go
I like to have a couple of scrap projects going at a time. Generally I'll work on them for a while until I run out of whatever color or shape scrap I need, then it gets put back on a shelf until I replenish my scraps. One of those projects is getting wrapped up this weekend.
For this string quilt I essentially foundation pieced strings onto rows of batting of various widths but all the same length. Once I had enough of them to make a quilt I trimmed them and sewed the rows together.
When I do QAYG (quilt as you go) like this I press the seams open and top stitch them down so the batting doesn't get too bulky. I thought you might be interested in seeing what one of these looks like from the back before I basted the backing on.
Of course little miss had to get in on the action. But you can see how the seams are open so they lay flat.
For final quilting I ran six or seven straight lines of quilting across the whole thing to hold the backing in place. (With this type of QAYG each strip is already individually quilted to the batting, but not to the backing.)

QAYG Strings and Geese
Aaaand it's Wednesday again... I *think* there are just a couple more of the flying geese blocks for last month's Covered in Love block drive to arrive, so I have been playing with them on the design wall. If you want to contribute a block (or a few) to CiL this month's block drive post is up here.
I have been working on some back burner projects, one of them is this Quilt as You Go string quilt I started a while back. I'm just piecing strings onto strips of batting, not sure how they will all end up coming together.
