Even More Potato Chips

Happy Friday, quilters! I've got some more finished quilts to show from our big potato chip block drive. This first top was sent in by one of our frequent supporters, Beth T, and then quilted by Linda. 

These next two were assembled by Becky M from block drive blocks and then also quilted by Linda. 

I've been busy sewing this week. Mostly assembling tops from your blocks, but I did sew up a string block top from a box of scraps Rena sent me.

In non-quilty news, I have a new foster cat, a five year old orange boy named Stuart. He is sequestered in my spare room because he doesn't care for other cats. 

Stuart is a people cat. He was obviously very bonded to his human mom and has been struggling since she had to go into a nursing facility. He loves pets, cuddles, and play. Hopefully we can find him a new person soon.  

Thanks to everyone who participated in this block drive, and especially to those helping me finish the quilts!

Stuart looks a lot like my cat Fudge, but Fudge has nose freckles and black whiskers.

Beth, Holly, Linda

Happy Friday, quilters! Sorry I missed last week, I took a trip to Santa Fe. I've got some great quilts to show you this week. This first one is a pattern called "Squared Up" by Cotton and Joy in Northcott Stonehenge fabrics. Beth made the top and Linda quilted it.

It's a lovely simple pattern, but so striking!

Next another top by by Beth, in much more her usual color scheme. This one's smaller so I quilted it on my midarm. 

Next, Holly made two tops in the GE Quilts "Stella" pattern with beautiful batik fabrics.

I did the quilting on these with a simple stipple.

I don't know what happened with this quilt. The camera just didn't like it. I took photos 3 separate times and they all came out the same 

The colors are a lovely bright blue and turquoise with bright white, same as the pink/coral one.

Beth's Quilt Tops

GE Designs "Two Timer" in barn raising layout

Happy Friday quilters! Today's three quilt tops were all sent in by long-time supporter Beth T. These first two were quilted by Dee on her longarm.

This quilt was actually originally the backing to the one above, but we both felt it was too complex and would make a nice quilt on its own. 

Dee rustled up some muslin to back it with and quilted it with an autumnal motif.  Beth must have a beautiful stash because she always has the most well-coordinated tops. 

Beth makes a lot of her quilts with free patterns from GE Designs. All of these are from "Two Timer". Beth included a note that this last quilt was also originally intended to be a backing, but took on a life of its own.

Pam did a lovely job quilting this top up and getting it all done. Three cozy quilts ready for the hospital, thanks ladies!

String Quilts 11-15

Happy Friday, Quilters! This week I have five more string quilts to show off. These were sent in during the Jan 2022 string quilt drive.  All 5 of these were donated as completed tops and Linda quilted them beautifully on her long arm. 

These first 2 quilts with the black sashing were sent in by Beth T. and Linda used awesome custom quilting on them. 

The quilts are complimentary but beautifully different. The second quilt with the white thread has different quilted pantos in each string square. 

I couldn't get pictures of everything, but I tried to get some good ones. 

Next, Tish sent in this top with a much more controlled color palette. I love how different the same block can look, and aqua and red are a great color combination. 

I also finally got to use this great, cute animal backing someone donated! 

Beth and Holly are real-life neighbors and friends and often sew together. Holly sent in this pretty string top with lots of saturated tones.

Linda chose a cool panto with interlocking flowers to show it off. 

Speaking of more controlled color schemes, Elana sent in this beauty. It's super scrappy and bright. 

Linda quilted chains of feathers down the colored strips. Thank you to Elana, Tish, Holly, Beth, and quilter Linda! You guys keep us going. 

Fudge has recently developed an annoying habit of blocking my machine while I'm sewing in order to get my attention. It's a good thing he's so darn cute. 

I had to break out the big guns to keep his little paws away from the needle. No kitty can resist a box!

Quilty Friends

Happy Friday once again, quilters! I think Spring is officially here. The daffodils are blooming and the trees and budding. My allergies are going crazy :)

All the tops in this post were sent in by three quilty friends from Illinois who live in the same city and enjoy sewing together.  Beth T began sending blocks and tops to me first, back in 2020.  This first top of hers is the pattern "Strip Joints" by GE Designs. 

I got these tops quilted during a burst of productivity recently.  My quilting machine was humming and there were batting fluff-bunnies on all the corners.  This pattern is "Straight and Narrow" Jordan Fabrics. 

Beth also sent in several of these "Charm Quilt on Point" pattern tops made with charm packs. The pattern is by Missouri Star Quilt Company. 

Since the pattern makes a square quilt Beth adds her own rows of checkerboard squares to make it rectangular, for a cozier quilt size!

Beth usually sends along binding to match her tops, and sometimes backing as well, which are both a big help to me. 

I'm not sure what fabric line this is, but I thought the colors were really sweet. 

But I told you this was a story about 3 quilty friends. After Beth had been sending in blocks and tops for a while her friend Holly joined in. They often share postage and load up a box together.  

Holly also made a version of the "Strip Joints" pattern in a different colorway and it looks completely different! 

Then most recently their friend Ginny joined in with blocks and tops.  So now I get boxes with notes and donations from all three! She made this top that looks like layer cakes split with white strips.

Ginny said her friend had made this top and she added the rainbow border.  It looks like a disappearing hourglass block with a few odd blocks thrown in?

As you probably know, I keep a spread sheet of names, addresses, and email addresses of people who donate-- for charity paperwork purposes and also so I can send out Christmas Cards. I'm surprised at how many of you live in the same town as other CiL contributors, or at least very nearby! It makes me wonder if you know each other as these Illinois friends do, or if it's just a coincidence.  

You might have an online quilt-friend who lives just down the road and not know it!
