Blocks mostly from Michele, assembled and quilted by me |
That's right, more string quilts are done! The
January/February Covered in Love block drive was wildly successful and I'm working steadily on getting all the blocks turned into quilts.

With these finishes I think we are officially, probably, 1/3 of the way though these :)

I think basically all of the quilts made from sets of blocks with a particular color or theme are done, from here it's more or less random.

Thank goodness for the help of other quilters, including my local rockstar Kathy, who are helping me get these together. The local Modern Guild is even talking about getting together a sew day to assemble tops from blocks.

I absolutely love these string quilts and I'm told they are a favorite among the patients and families who receive them as well.

For the more or less random quilt tops I try to group the blocks losely into either bright, somber, masculine, or feminine sets. I'm not sure what I was going for with the one above... Below is masculine and below that is bright.

Big thanks to Sandra, Amanda, Bonnie, and Mary whose backing yardages completed these quilts, Nicki for bindings, and to all of you who sent in blocks!

These thirteen have already been loaded up and taken to the hospital for distribution.
CiL continues to grow and bless more and more mourning families. I couldn't do it without ALL of your support!

Ready to go to the hospital! |
Covered in Love
is taking a break from the block drives until July so I can
catch up. If you find yourself with extra time consider donating to

Wow, just an awesome lineup of colorful, exciting quilts!
ReplyDeleteoh, these are wonderful and more wonderful - and I see some blocks I made !! I'm so glad those strings are going to work rather than laying in my string bin - hooray, and good for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kate and Linda! I'm leaving a comment on my own post so Blogger will email me when you all comment.
ReplyDeleteSend me another set if you want. ; )
ReplyDeleteDoing it again because I forgot to check the box...
ReplyDeleteThey are all - each and every one - absolutely beautiful. String blocks are some of my favorites, too. To me, they are very "feely" tactilely pleasing, and it's always fun to see SO many fabrics playing nicely side by side.
ReplyDeleteWOW! You certainly have been busy. Each of these quilts is gorgeous and so unique. I love each one and the fact that they're not preplanned makes the design even better! I've recently cleaned up my studio and have a box filled with various colored strings. I learned from your drive a few years ago, once you start making these blocks, you just can't stop!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilts look wonderful. It always amazes me how blocks of varied colors and prints made by different quilters look so great when they are put together. Special thanks to all of your top assemblers and quilters who work magic from the donated blocks.
ReplyDeleteThese look fantastic! And they were so much fun to make!!! who doesn't love a colorful string quilt!!!!! Great job Kat and your helpers in getting them finished!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely stack of quilts you and your helpers have put together.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your stack of string quilts!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThese quilts are so very, very full of love. So many hands reaching out to touch families that need comfort. I love how you've grouped the blocks together into "themes!" Great job, and many thanks to your helpers. So cool that the guild might be helping out :)
ReplyDeleteHoly wow! Each quilt is gorgeous and so different from each other. I love that about string quilts!
ReplyDeleteWowzer! What a great collection of string quilts. I especially like how you vary the directions of the blocks so each quilt looks different. Also really like the masculine, feminine, color, etc. themes so one can always be found for a family in need. Thanks again for all you do & to ALL your volunteers.
