Paper Piecing for Good Stitches

January was my month to pick a blocks for my do. Good Stitches circle and it somehow snuck up on me.  I a moment of temporary insanity I decided it would be really cool for everyone in our circle to make one block from the Forest QAL so that we'd end up with a set of 10 blocks.  ...like I said, a moment of insanity.  Hopefully the rest of my circle doesn't kill me before the month is over.

So, this is the status of my design wall, such as it is. I let everyone else pick their blocks first and still wound up doing the deer, which is the one block I had made before.  I am back in school (someday I am going to grow up and be done with school!) so I am sewing to the sounds of recorded lectures.  I keep moving my 15lb Patho textbook on and off my desk in hopes the knowledge will somehow leap into my brain without actually cracking the cover.  Oh well :)

Edited to add: End of the day and done! Hooray!

Hope your week is shaping up to be a good one.  Linking to WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced.

Paper Piecing Pineapples

Happy Monday :) It is a happy Monday for me. After working a loooong 3 days weekend I am back at the sewing machine. First things first I need to get this month's do. Good Stitches blocks done before I leave for my trip next week.

This month Louise has us paper piecing her inside out pineapple pattern.  Above is one finished quarter. I need to make 8 quarters in order to have 2 blocks.  Now, while I don't hate paper piecing, it is definitely not my favorite. And so time consuming!

After completing the first block to get my head around it I am assembly-lining the other 7.  Currently I am attaching pieces 7 & 8 (of 20) to each of the blocks.

If you come around here this afternoon your might hear some inappropriate words directed at Louise, but I promise it to only in the heat of the moment. This meticulously pieced will be gorgeous, and so worth it in the end.  Right? Ask me again in a couple of hours.

;)

5 hours of so later, here they are in all their glory!

Deer and Geese and Paperpiecing, Oh My!

Happy Monday! Rather unexpectedly, I have something on my design wall to share today! I was supposed to work all weekend, but on Saturday I got a welcome, early morning phone call.  Cancelled for the day meant a a bonus day of sewing :)

This sweet little baby quilt just needs borders, so I am hoping to get it quilted today.  I love the soft , but not girly, colors in the geese.

I have been watching enviously at the paper pieced blocks people have made during the Forest Quilt Along and decided to try just one for this quilt.  Whew, it was a lot of work!  I am in love with the results, of course.  You can't beat paper piecing for precision and detail.
