Quilters' quilts

Happy Friday, quilters! This week I have a few quilts to show that were made and sent in by our dedicated long-arm quilters. 

Linda made these first two and sent them in with a return delivery of tops she quilted for us.  I love the pieced backing and the beautiful fabrics.

This quilt, also by Linda, couldn't be more different. From super coordinated and simple to a crazy scrap buster!

Linda has a computerized long-arm machine and I always enjoy seeing what new quilting designs she wants to try out. 

Just come close ups of the beautiful texture. 

Next, this large patriotic quilt came from Wendy.  It is a very large, generous quilt. 

This will be perfect for a veteran's family in the hospital. I love Wendy's quilting with the swirls and lines.

Anonymous Quilts

Happy Friday, quilters! All three of the quilts in this post were sent in anonymously, I'm not sure if that was on purpose or a mistake. So if you see one of your tops here please claim it!

This patriotic top was sent to long-armer Mel to finish and she used a great meandering star design. I really like the creative layout and use of the blocks.

These next two tops I believe came in together, also without names. They were sent to be quilted by long-armer Wendy. Both are very generously sized and Wendy did an great job choosing quilting designs.

Photo from a family beach trip to Orange Beach, Alabama in June. One evening there was a full moon and I enjoyed a lovely moon-lit walk on the beach. Ideal way for a redhead to enjoy the beach!

Happy Friday, quilters! This Friday I bring you a selection of tops made by two different Kathys and quilted by 4 volunteer quilters.

I was busy this weekend packing and shipping tops to quilters.  It inspired me to get busy myself and I have quilted 9 tops so far and plan to do 2 more tonight. 

Jenny S. did a lovely job quilting Kathy's big 16 patch with a feathery motif. For the top she used a multi color thread that perfectly complements the color scheme. I tried to get a good pic but it's much clearer in real life.

I love the backing choice and the multicolored binding. Great collab between these ladies.

Last top from Kathy B., another 16 patch with a cute flamingo backing. 

We've been having a lot of strong thunderstorms here, lots of trees down and power out.  My little area has been quite fortunate, with the worst of it going just south of use repeatedly.  In between storms it's hot and muggy, I had to keep wiping the condensation off my camera lens when I took these pictures. I hope it's safe and dry where you all live.

Kathy S. made this top with a block similar to the potato chip blocks we have in the block drive right now. 

Pam did a wonderful job with both of these scrappy quilts, giving them a cozy stipple.  Since 2020 Pam has quilted (and often also assembled) over 50 quilts for CiL!

Priscilla's Tops

Happy Friday, quilters! Priscilla has been one of CiL's longest running supporters. She's sent in many tops over the years. This week I have three of her awesome tops which were finished by our amazing quilters. 

This simple block made of batik fabrics is cheery and cozy and absolutely huge. As you can see, it barely fit on the swing at all. Both this quilt and the next are in the 100" sq range.

A similarly simple block in a completely different palette makes for an equally cozy quilt. These two enormous quilts were both quilted by Wendy on her longarm. 

Last up, this is also quite a large quilt, it's only small by comparison to the other two. I love the border design. Pam did the quilting on this one and I really like the block. Might make for a fun block drive one day?

More Tops Completed!

Happy weekend, quilters! I hope you're all well.  I have some team quilts to show this week. Amy sent in two tops and long-armer Wendy completed them for us. 

Thanks to both of these ladies. These are really large quilts and will be a great gift to the families that Covered in Love benefits. I really like the colors in both of Amy's tops. 

Next, two quilt tops sent in by Kathy B. and quilted by Ray in Florida. Ray does an excellent job with his quilting, I'd highly recommend him if you're looking for a long-armer.

Kathy's second top is made from a pattern we did as a block drive back in March 2020.

Speaking of block drives, Cynthia just launched her latest block drive for Compassion Quilts. They're making "happy blocks" for kids quilts this time around and I know CiL doesn't make kiddy quilts, so this could be a fun change. Be sure to check it out.

Lastly, inspired by some jackets I've seen on Instagram I added a quilted panel to the back of this thrift store jacket. It's way too hot to wear right now, but I think it looks pretty cool.

With Love, To Long-armers

Another Friday, some more finishes! Courtesy of CiL's devoted long arm quilters. 

These were all assembled from blocks donated during the Jan 2022 block drive. The first 5 were assembled and quilted by Linda. I got some close ups to show off the cool pantos she used. 

I'm really excited because I met a local long-armer last week who wants to help us out! After talking about things she asked me to bring her the rest of the string tops I have on hand! 

It was really a fortuitous meeting. After getting my haircut I decided to visit my local quilt shop to show the owner photos of the mariners compass quilt I just finished. She helped me pick out some of the fabrics. 

While there another quilter was shopping with her grandaughters and I recognized the girls' names as my coworkers kids. I already knew my coworker's mother-in-law was a quilter, so I made the connection and went to introduce myself.

Turns out Dee has a computerized long-arm and is eager to help out, as well as have tops to practice free motioning on. What a boon for both of us! 

I took her some tops last Sunday and we had a nice visit in her studio. Always fun to visit with other quilters in person and talk shop. 

I know block drives have been on hold for a long time and many of you are eager to get back to it. I feel like I'm finally starting to get ahead of the situation here at home base and can see us having a block drive again before tooo much longer. 

This 6th quilt was assembled by me and quilted by another hard-working long arm quilter, Wendy!

String quilts are always a big hit with our patient families, and I can't wait to get these up to the hospital. Thanks everyone who contributed to these, tell me if you spot one of your blocks!
