Finished Quilts

Happy New Year, Quilters! I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. Today's post is full of quilts that were sent in already finished, Hooray! This one came from loooong time CiL supporter Mina.

We did have at least one quilt handed out on Christmas Day, so special thoughts for that family. Thanks to all of you who make it possible to give people some comfort on one of the worst days of their lives. 

These next 2 quilts came from Tina C, she sends in a couple every month or so. We had a lovely Christmas with family in Mississippi. It's been very warm here (high near 80, lows in the 60s) so we had shorts and t-shirts and plenty of time outside. 

A friend up the street checked on the kitties for me while I was gone and everyone did well. I have had the kittens for 2.5 weeks now. It only took a few days for them to be tame enough to handle without losing an eye.

Introducing them to my big kitties turned out to be a big step forward. They're instantly more confident when around the big cats. Weirdly, they are dopplegangers of my Fudge and Sundae: an orange tabby boy and a dilute tortie girl.  

They both seem to enjoy being held and petted, but they won't willingly come toward me and still run when I move toward them. I am now carrying cat treats in my pocket so I can reward them anytime they come toward me or allow me to approach them. 

I'm fairly certain they are old enough for spay/neuter and they are filling out nicely. At the end of this week I will be able to see about scheduling them with the local animal charity group. 

This quilt came from Mary and I'm sorry about the terrible color balance! The background is actually white. It has a very cute focal fabric with fairy tale scenes.

Mina's Village

Happy Friday, quilters! Hope you're all well. This week I have several of Mina's signature village quilts to show. This first one she sent in already finished.

These next two were tops sent in by Mina and quilted by Sundance Quilting. I love them because they're bright with lots of little things to look at, and because it's a reminder of how much we all need our "village" to get through hard times.

Someone donated me this rainbow fabric that made the perfect backing for these cheery quilts. You zoom in on this one you might be able to see the panto of umbrellas and clouds.

My poor Sundae girl continues to struggle with her weight. She's like a furry watermelon. As they are coming up on 7 years old I really want to keep her in good health. Has anyone had any luck with a particular food for helping cats lose weight?

It's not fair that brother got a good metabolism and she has to count kibbles :(

Small Quilts

Happy Friday, quilters! This week I've got some small quilts to show. We don't give out many of these, but they will either be wheelchair lap quilts or used for our small number of NICU babies. Kathy S made this top and I quilted it.

These next two kiddy quilts came from Mina.

Mina has been such a huge supporter over the years. This quilt with the little strawberries is just too cute.

This yellow and purple quilt was actually already basted. I'm afraid I lost track of where it came from, so if you recognize it please speak up.

This little quilt has a beautiful applique panel in the center. It's just lovely and would make a great wall hanging.

Unfortunately I have once again lost track of where it came from. I believe the central panel was by itself and I sent it to Louise and she put the borders on.

Mina's Rainy Day Quilts

Happy Friday everyone! Mina has been a major contributor to CiL almost since we began and she's also a fellow Texan. I love to see her quilts turning up at Many Hands Many Hearts now. 

Some years ago, I got to meet her darling parents when they drove up this way to deliver a big load of finished quilts along with some tops.  These 25 finished quilts have been my "rainy day" stash ever since then, waiting for the day I got behind and needed them.

Recently I did need to re-stock one of our hospitals and had no quilts photographed and ready to go. I was able to label, wash, and deliver all of these in just a couple of days. Thank you, Mina for ALL your support over the years!

Fudge was also a big "help".

Strings and Patriotism

Happy Friday, Quilters! Another week has gone by and I have some more completed quilts sent in by CiL supporters. 

Erin sent in these two wild scrappy string quilts. These remind me of the block drive we did in Jan 2020.

Mina is a frequent contributor to CiL, she's the one who makes the village quilts you may remember seeing. She sent in these two red/white/blue plus quilts full of cute fabrics. 

Patriotic quilts are always in demand and among the most coveted at the hospital. It's an honor to be able to gift a veteran's family with a beautiful quilt. 

Mina must have a bunch of that lobster fabric because I've seen it in lots of her blocks. It will be a fun treat for someone to notice!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I feel like every year since 2020 the new year has been a little fraught. You want to say it's going to be a better year than the last but... what if something like 2020 happens to us again? 

Anyway, I am quietly keeping my fingers crossed for a pleasant, uneventful, and healing year for the world.  Speaking of healing, all these quilts of comfort were donated by longtime CiL supporter Mina!

I know many of you will be disappointed, but CiL's block drive will be remaining on hiatus for a while longer. I just have so many blocks and tops that I need to finish here.   You can continue to support Cynthia's new project which has a very similar structure and target demographic to CiL. She tentatively plans to announce a new block drive in March.

I know many of you sent in blue/brown rail fence blocks already (thank you!). Cynthia has finished several quilts from donated blocks already, you can see some of them here. 

Hope you all had a great holiday and I'm wishing you all the best in the New Year!

Hey everyone, sorry I missed posting last week! I usually at least give you a cat picture if I can't get a post together but the whole day completely snuck past me.  As compensation here's another photo Sundae dressing up in my Christmas gifts.  

She's thrilled, really ;) Now back to your regularly scheduled quilt content.

These are the first quilts to be posted from this past summer's RWB patriotic stars drive. This one was pieced and assembled by Linda D., who does so much longarm quilting to benefit CiL.

This large top, being modeled by my mother, was made by Bonnie C and quilted by Wendy.  I said she looked like a quilt-ghost; she chose a quilt-crow (scarecrow).

I didn't take a picture of the red and white ticking on the backing, but it is absolutely perfect. 

These last two quilt were assembled and quilted by Linda D from blocks sent in by Mina. There is some lobster fabric in these blocks that is just too cute.
