Happy New Year everyone! I know I've been MIA for a couple weeks but I'm still here. Luckily Kathy C. came to the rescue with a stack of 5 freshly assembled and quilted star quilts from this summer's drive.
I traveled and had great visits with family in New Mexico and Mississippi over Christmas but then was laid low by some kind of mega-cold. I had planned to spend the days off work between Christmas and New Year sewing, instead I've been sleeping fitfully and coughing my head off :(
I finally started to improve a few days ago and have been knocking items off the to-do list.
I hope you all had a very Merry and warm Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2019 was a big year full of changes for me and I am anxious to see what 2020 will bring.
As usual, many, many people worked together to make these star quilts possible. Kathy C. pieced and quilted them.
Nicki donated the binding which I dyed to in a red-white-blue gradient. So many of you sent in patriotic and red-white-blue backings that I was able to give every single quilt a thematically appropriate background.
And then of course the dozens of quilters who sent in the blocks to make the quilts. We're looking at a total of about 18 quilts to come from this block drive!
Speaking of block drives, the Jan/Feb block drive post will be up this weekend. It's another variation on a string block ;) I hoped to have the post up before New Year but life happened.
Fudge and Sundae have had no complaints at all about me spending extra time in bed. They take their duties as professional snuggle buddies very seriously :)
Definitely glad I invested in that double-size hammock |
Covered in Love is a 501(c)(3) charity that donates quilts to patients dying in the hospital, over 500 so far! The Nov/Dec drive is going on now. Check out the main post HERE if you want to get involved. The post for January will be up this weekend.

ReplyDeleteHey, may you feel better soon! I am done in and inspired by the creativity of the star blocks I am seeing in these quilts-so many wonderful and creative people here! Hoping for a wonderful and healthy and happy New Year for all of you, who help organize, donate, quilt or otherwise help CIL. Thank you and bless you, for all that you do.Special love for the furry quality control inspectors!
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon! I had the drippy megacold before Christmas and my husband is recovering from it now. Will be getting back to my nov/dec blocks as soon as i am done mystery quilting. And string reduction made it onto my 2020 goal list so i cant wait to see your variation.
ReplyDeleteI just love these posts. The quilts are stunning-each one. The binding is get and brings it all together. Get well soon and keep on quilting.
ReplyDeleteOh my stars! Another beeeeee-autiful batch of blocks, shining bright in these gorgeous quilts! Kathy did a wonderful job setting them together, getting the right mix of red, white and blue in each one. The quilting makes them perfectly snuggly and ready to go to work. And I recognized the tie-dye binding immediately :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon, Kat. Seems to be a lot of this crud going around, coast to coast, and you're exposed to so much in your job. Hang in there and let the cat cuddles do their important work of healing!
They are all beautiful! Glad you’re feeling better!

ReplyDeleteMy, but Fudge and Sundae look cozy! Well done Kathy! How fabulous to have appropriate backing fabric for every one of them too. Kudos to everyone involved. <3
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts! I had a respiratory virus all in my chest that flattened me over Christmas. Still dry hacking, but head is clearer and more energy. Love the kitties.
ReplyDeleteThese quilts are spectacular! I’m impressed that there were enough blocks to make about 18 quilts. Great job everyone!
ReplyDeleteThose star blocks turned out to be real beauties in the finished quilts. Hugs & thanks to Kathy C. for helping to get them into the quilts & ready for the families. Kat, I'm so glad you have helping hands when you need them. Take care of yourself & don't overdo. The blocks will keep coming & ready for you when you are back in full swing. So sweet to see your kitties & to know that they not only love you but they love each other too...hammock buds!
ReplyDeletePoor you for being sick on your days off! Love all the pictures and kudos to Kathy C. especially for her piecing as I know sewing together blocks from different makers isn't easy!

ReplyDeleteThe Oh My Stars blocks are sooooooo fun!
Seems to be a lot of sickness going around early in the season. I'm sure our up and down weather patterns aren't helping. The first batch of star quilts look wonderful.
