Happy Friday, quilters! And Merry Christmas! I hope this post finds you warm and cozy and well ahead on your shopping and gift wrapping.
This week I have a few quilts to show you that were pieced by Christy, who does the amazing shirtings tops, and then quilted by Dee. I had found some backing fabric with a musical theme, so Dee used a panto to match.
I apologize for how flat and gray the photos of this quilt came out. I have no idea what happened to the light. I promise it's just as pretty as the other one. These masculine red white and blue quilts are always a huge hit.
Things have been busy here. We unexpectedly found two kittens living in our barn last Wednesday. They were very hungry, which made them easy to trap. They're and 4 months old but severely underweight (1.1lb and 2.5lb) and completely feral.
I've been trying to fatten them up and socialize them (guess which one is easier.) They have learned to tolerate me and I can now handle them both safely, but they still don't actually like humans at all.
They are in LOVE with my big cats. Unfortunately, Sundae and Fudge were raised by humans and have no cat-manners at all. It is slow, but I'm hoping that fudge at least can learn to be friendly with the babies.
I am planning to keep them until they can be spayed/neutered (they are old enough now but too unhealthy) and then find them a home. They probably won't ever be lap cats, but they could be good mousers and farm cats.

I love these red, white and blue quilts! Such a great use of shirting and I'm sure they are super soft and cozy, too. And of course, the kittens are just darling. I know you'll make them soft and cozy, too. Eventually.
ReplyDeleteHow lucky those kittens (and your patients) are to find you. Your loving heart gives such warm feelings to all.
ReplyDeletetis the season for the "cat distribution network" to be working overtime!! your new friends look absolutely adorable and very comfortable on their quilt. as a bonded pair, they will surely rely on each other as they adapt to you. food is a great motivator! we too are in the process of raising orphan kittens. we began in mid october with 3, ten day old, 5 oz kittens, who we bottle fed through the nights. two months later, the biggest is 3.5 pounds. we often refer to them as, "the terrorists", due to their energy and ability to create chaos. 2 out of 3 adult cats like them, and all dogs approve. my daughter (who helped raise) will take two, and i will keep one.
ReplyDeleteThanks for another week of beautiful quilts. I know the red, white & blue quilts are always popular & will be put in the hands of loving people.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I not surprised that you have taken in 2 more little darling kittens. They will get all the love and attention needed from you & grow up to be wonderful little companions (if not for you) for someone special.
Merry Christmas!!!
Pretty Quilts - I like that bar one!! and yay for getting the kitties a little tamer
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts! I like the bar one, too.
ReplyDeleteOh they are darling ! I have tamed many ferals - i suggest you hand-feed them some wet food they especially like, so they associate your hand with food. If they won't eat from your hand, put some wet food on a long spoon, hold it out, and let them lick it off. Then over a few days, gradually slide your hand up the spoon, closer and closer... well done !
ReplyDeleteLovely quilts. And the cats 🐈 are adorable. Happy New Year to you from Montreal, Canada ❤️ 😊 🇨🇦
