A mix of modern and traditional

Hello, friends! Louise here to share a few quilts made with your donated orphan blocks. First up is a great mix of purples and greens, one of my favorite color combos. The blocks are set with a uniform pale gray sashing for a simple, masculine feel.

Here's another use of a gray background, but in asymmetric columns. Every block also contains gray, as does the scrappy binding. The occasional bright pops of color add spark and give it a modern vibe.

This quilt has also has a modern column layout, but the blocks and color palette feel very traditional. Flying geese, monkey wrenches, hour glasses, and more!

This quilt uses a cute cats-and-sewing panel mixed with orphan blocks. Because of your generosity, I can always find just the right color blocks to enhance sweet panels like this one!

These three small quilts all came from some big strip sets sent in by Kathy. She included a note that said she originally intended to use them for a pattern called Chimney Sweep but that Covered in Love could use them in any way we wanted. I chose to cut the sets diagonally and make Wonky Diamonds. The colors are so soft and pretty that I thought they'd make ideal neonatal quilts. Thank you, Kathy, for this fun project!

Here's a little piece made of scrappy red and green blocks. I think this is called Crown of Thorns? I love the secondary pattern that appears between the red circle shapes.

And finally, this quilt in true blues and beige/browns is one of my favorites.

Check out this panel of cathedral window blocks! I would have never tackled making these myself, but loved integrating them into a larger quilt.

And how about these "crazy quilt" blocks featuring embroidery, lace, fancy trims and buttons? So fun!

The center column is seven hexagon blocks, each with a tiny, homey central embroidery. Kat took close up photos of each sweet one so you can enjoy them as much as I did. My favorite is the teeny tiny sweater!

Many thanks to all the talented and generous people who sent in this huge variety of blocks. Your hands help cover our recipients in quilty love!

More of Christy's Shirtings

Happy Friday, Quilters! Sorry I skipped last Friday's post, I was sick with a cold for a while. I'm still hacking up a lung, but otherwise doing better.

I've got some more of Christy's shirtings quilts to show this week. We'll have to be careful who this one gets given to. Texas Tech is heresy in some families!

All of these were quilted by me with a stipple. I like the brighter colors and the patterns in these first two.

This is a really simple and effective pattern, reminds me of a good block drive design...

Lastly, a string quilt in a more coordinated color scheme. I like the plaids around the border, too.

Thanks Christy! Everyone cuddle up with your cats and quilts and stay warm this week!

Julie's tops

Happy Friday, quilters! Some bright and beautiful quilts to show this week courtesy of Julie.

These have been on my shelf for way too long, but I got them finished as part of my recent quilting spree,

I quilted all of these with a simple stipple. I just love the colors and fabrics, Julie must have such a fun fabric stash!

I've decided recently that no more than 60" in the shorter is a good limit of what I can comfortably quilt on my midarm machine. I can definitely do more, but I feel like I can really buzz through the smaller quilts.

I LOVE the design of this quilt, and the fabrics are very cool. They are Alice in Wonderland themed with metallic gold accents. (Thank to Melody for identifying the pattern as The Penny Quilt by Kitchen Table Quilting)

These next two are the same color palette and pattern. I didn't even realize there were two of them until I got to the photo stage and thought I have accidentally photographed the same one twice.

Julie (or anyone), if you know the pattern please comment with it.  It's a very effective, simple pattern to show off cool fabrics. (Edit: kudos to Melody for identify these as Fourteen Squared by Hunter's Design Studio.)

(The borders are different colors, so there definitely are two different quilts)

Thank you, Julie! Sorry it took so long to finish.

Christy's Shirtings

Happy Friday, Quilters! Sorry I missed posting last week. I did deliver 30 more quilts to the hospital. We've surpassed 1600 total!

Christy has sent in several batches of shirtings tops over the years and they are still some of my favorites. I have been quilting these bit by bit and still have some to go.

They all just quilted with a simple stipple. I had fun choosing very cozy and homey fabrics for the backing and binding to compliment the shirts.

I hope you all had a good Halloween and ate way too much candy. I definitely did. There was candy everywhere at the hospital.

I might try to get my Christmas Lights up on the porch this weekend. I know it's only November, but they make me happy.

Here's a throwback photo to Fudge in his Halloween costume a few years ago.

Christine and Sundance Reprise

Happy Friday, quilters! A month or so ago I showed you some color block quilts from Christine that were quilted by Sundance Quilting. Here are the rest of them!

I used the simple layout as a chance to choose some really fun backings and quilting motifs.

This Christmas quilt got golfing Santas on the back. Don't ask me why I had holding-Santa fabric.

Things are going well here. The last block drive has wrapped up, but feel free to still send in blocks if you want. I haven't started to assemble the tops yet.

These last two quilts are probably my favorite color combos of these color blocks.

The weather has finally turned cooler and I'm enjoying sleeping with my windows open at night.

I hope things are good where you all are and you've been safe from the recent weather events.

Instead of a cat picture I have a baby quilt for a wrap up photo this week.

This was for an outdoorsy couple expecting a little girl. She just made her arrival last week!

Priscilla's Pretties

Hello, friends! Louise here to share a few quilts I finished from Priscilla's blocks and tops.

This one came to me as big log cabin blocks, and I laid them out in Fields and Furrows. The autumnal fabrics are gorgeous!

This is a classic in scrappy lights and darks. I think this block is called Split Nines? Priscilla is great at using contrast in her quilts.

Here's a deep dive into the variety in Priscilla's stash. So many different fabrics, all playing nicely together.

Someone donated several yards of this cute piggy fabric, so I put it on the back.

I'm 90% certain these bright blocks came from Priscilla's studio. My apologies if I got that wrong!

It's a happy quilt no matter what.

I think this one is my favorite of the batch. Simple and modern, with the consistency of the little turquoise squares.

I hope you enjoyed this lovely group of quilts. Many thanks to Priscilla for her continuing generosity and support of Covered in Love!
