Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I feel like every year since 2020 the new year has been a little fraught. You want to say it's going to be a better year than the last but... what if something like 2020 happens to us again? 

Anyway, I am quietly keeping my fingers crossed for a pleasant, uneventful, and healing year for the world.  Speaking of healing, all these quilts of comfort were donated by longtime CiL supporter Mina!

I know many of you will be disappointed, but CiL's block drive will be remaining on hiatus for a while longer. I just have so many blocks and tops that I need to finish here.   You can continue to support Cynthia's new project which has a very similar structure and target demographic to CiL. She tentatively plans to announce a new block drive in March.

I know many of you sent in blue/brown rail fence blocks already (thank you!). Cynthia has finished several quilts from donated blocks already, you can see some of them here. 

Hope you all had a great holiday and I'm wishing you all the best in the New Year!

Bright Winter Quilts

Wonderful Wendy made the quilts in this week's post.  Lovely bright colors to liven up the winter days! It's been properly cold here the past week, hopefully our one bad cold snap for the year.  

The first one is Bonnie Hunter's Scrappy Trips Around the World design done with monochrome blocks. 

I love these bright rainbow color schemes. Wendy had the perfect rainbow color fade border for this quilt.

Lastly, this is very large and cozy disappearing 9 patch top Priscilla sent in that Wendy quilted on her long arm.

Unfortunately my work schedule fell where I'm working the weeks around Christmas this year, but at least I do have weekends off, so I was home on Christmas day.  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

Warm Quilts for Winter

Happy Holidays everyone! It's finally gotten properly cold here and it's so nice to wear hats and hoodies and sweats!

Patricia's quilts are on display today. She sent in a big box with all these treasures recently. This very large quilt with the overlapping boxes is my favorite. I like how they look kind of 3D like pyramids. 

This very cozy quilt with homespun fabrics is my next favorite.   On the closeup you can how there is topstitching along the edges of the blocks. I'm not sure if Patricia did that or if this was actually a solid piece of cheater fabric but I love it either way. 

Next up, a really pretty breast cancer memorial quilt. We'll hang on to it for the perfect patient, or possibly an opportunity with the local chapter of Susan G. Komen.

My doc and I got Thanksgiving off this year, so we'll be working over Christmas.  I'll be off on the day since I don't work weekends, but we're working the week before and 2 weeks after. 

We seem to be going into another little mini Covid surge here, census in the hospital is up, so everyone be cautious with your holiday travel. Many of our patients are on their 3rd and 4th go around and the elderly just get so worn down by it that they're vulnerable to everything. 

The center of this quilt is actually cheater cloth, for sure, and I love how the simple color scheme works. 

Due to the work schedule I'm not getting to do my usual holiday travel to see family, so I'm going to try to work in some trips in the spring. I haven't been to Santa Fe in a year! Too long. 

This red and white quilt is last up today. Perfectly simple and striking!

...and the perfect quilting panto to match. 

Fudge and Sundae have been appreciating their heating pad on these cold nights. They are disgustingly cute sometimes.

The Best Kind of Karen

The best kind of Karen is a quilting Karen! And there are three in this post.  Karen C. made this rectangular 36 Patch with lovely, homey fabrics. A perfect unisex quilt and I loved the backing fabric she used.

Next up, this amazing, saturated batik quilt in a quarter log cabin pattern. This is a LARGE quilt, too.

This quilt was pieced by Karen N. and quilted by Karen M. This is a great scrap buster pattern and making it all from batiks makes it look cohesive. 

Next, Karen M. used a simple pattern to show off some really cool fabrics. I have a friend who loves succulents and these prints made me think of her. 

If anyone knows the fabric line comment and let me know so I can link to it. I wish I had gotten better pictures!  

Lastly, Karen M. made this very modern and bright quilt from the pattern "Finger Paints" by Quilt Fort. It's quilted with arcing lines sort of line a Baptist Fan but more modern.

Pixel Block Drive Finish

Hello! Time to show off some of my favorite quilts we've made in a long while.  These four quilts came from the blocks we made in our May/June 2022 block drive. The "Scrappy Pixel Block" was designed by Sushi.Farmer on Instagram. We made a colorful version inspired by JessicaQuilter. 

I sent all the blocks that came in to Linda D. and she assembled and quilted them into four quilts. She did an awesome job of blending together all the various blocks to make cohesive quilts. I love how bright and colorful they all are!

There were 4 quilts made from assorted blocks and a 5th quilt sent in finished by Tina C., you can see in this post.

It's Fall, Y'all

 Happy Friday :) I hope you all had a very nice Thanksgiving with the people close to you. I has rained ALL week but the sun finally came out today and got some quilt pictures so I can make posts for you! Also real quick I wanted to draw your attention to this post about an opportunity to support another organization like CiL running a block drive. 

Photo bomb by my new porch cat (stray). She doesn't have a name yet, I've been calling her "My Friend." She is very friendly and eats like a linebacker. As far as I can tell she isn't pregnant, and I will take her in to get spayed soon. My cats watch her through the window and they are NOT fans at all. 

These quilts were all assembled and quilted by Linda D. from our fall 2021 "Tall 9s" block drive. She chose the perfect quilting motif with leaves and pumpkins for these Fall-ish quilts. 

In this set of quilts most of them are made from blocks donated by just one or two people so the colors and patterns are very consistent. If you recognize that one of these was made with your blocks please leave a comment and I'll add your name.

I really liked the fabrics in this one, especially these little bees.

This is the only one where I managed to keep a name with the blocks, these are from Cindy B!

Cindy had some really great Fall print fabrics in her stash with leave and pumpkins on them. I'm looking forward to having more of these finished to show soon!

The leaves have just turned in the past week and I think they are the best colors I remember us having in recent years.
